16 August 2009 No Comment

On Saturday, August 1, Master Terry took three students to a tournament in Atlanta that was sponsored by Yong-In University of South Korea.  Opened in the early 1950′s, Yong-In University was, for the longest time, one of only two universities in the world to offer an actual martial arts major.  Yong-In students and alumni are renowned for their martial arts abilities and regularly earn top medals in the World Games and the Olympic Games in the martial arts of Taekwondo and Judo.  In addition, graduates often go on to careers in elite military units or special security forces.  TTJC was founded in 1978 by a Yong-In Graduate – Master Pyong Kong Eun, who prior to his coming to the US, served in the elite military unit, the South Korean Presidential Bodyguard. The Yong-In demonstration teams travel the world to provide incredible demonstrations in the martial arts of Taekwondo, Judo, and Yong Moo Do.

The tournament, held in the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta, was an international level competitive event and the opening ceremonies included a special demonstration by the Yong-In Taekwondo Demonstration Team.  Competing on behalf of TTJC were Drew Renner who earned a third place medal in board breaking and a first place medal in sparring competition; Charles Beeson who in second place medals in both the board breaking and the sparring competitions; and Josh Beeson, brither of Charles, who earned a first place medal in board breaking and a third place medal in sparring competition.
